Several new studies on Vitamin D and fish oil have been published and, if you caught the story on NPR, you might be a bit concerned as the title was very disappointing. If you’d like to read the article for yourself, you can read it here: Vitamin D and Fish Oil Supplements Mostly Disappoint in Long-Awaited Research Results.
First of all, don’t panic! While this headline sounds concerning, please don’t change any patterns based on these results. The largest study discussed was designed to look at heart disease and cancer, not weight loss or bone health.
Furthermore, the study didn’t have a representative population of higher BMI or overweight participants, and it didn’t include patients with Vitamin D deficiencies.
Here at Thinnergy, we only prescribes vitamin D supplementation when someone is truly deficient, so stay on your dose. Did you know that when patients with deficiencies, supplementation can help them lose more weight effectively?

P.S. For those who are at a higher risk of colon cancer, the study did have some interesting information; so if you’re at higher risk or have any questions ask Dr. Laffey at your next appointment.
